Fiction Purists (and Why They're Annoying)

Every couple of years, it seems, my feed fills with Opinions from people who want their fiction to be Pure.

Dear Diary...

I'm Being Completely Normal About Murderbot

You can now attest the high-pitched squealing noise to the moment I was forwarded the YouTube link to the teaser trailer

Dumb Technology Please

Make no mistake, I am a nerd who loves progress and technology. I especially like the stuff that makes my life easier. Preferably whilst also not costing me my privacy or needing software updates just to do something mind-numbingly basic. Like, for example, cooking your food or keeping it cold.

Representation Vs Autism: Good When Useful

Kind of makes an Autiste like me believe that society will only think me worthy of my keep if I'm somehow profitable.

Dear Diary...

Anger at the Details

Over the passage of several baking days, I began to suspect something was awry.

But Does it Though?

The chief objection I always hear about disaster prevention, especially large stuff that’s generally the government’s responsibility, is that it “does nothing”.

A Little Research Plz?

A little less than a week ago, my Beloved and I had a chance to enjoy the Doctor Who episode, Nikola Tesla’s Night of Terror. All well and fine.

Action Needed

If you’ve been following my daily diary entries on my hub site, or paying attention to my Tumblr feed, you may already know that I’m more than a little miffed with the Department of Status Quo of late.

Food

The Sizzler Effect

I’ve seen this happen before and I’m seeing it again. Once upon a time, Sizzler used to have actual seafood in its buffet choices.

Have Your Say

Dear Conservatives...

If this article makes you angry, then I -a “libtard”- have won. I have won because my highlighting of your cognitive dissonance has caused you to react in the lowest possible way, by wanting to destroy me.

One Nutter Saves The World: Hemp is Better

Let’s begin by emphasising that Marijuana and Hemp are completely different plants.

America Likes Sick Cows: Health and Food

It’s finally time for the opinion nobody wanted. I’ve run out of all kinds of opinions to have in your direction and this one is the last of the spares I had in my metaphorical pockets.

Equally Sick, Unequally Seen

You may have already guessed from the picture, but I’m about to go off once again on my favourite topic: Autism.

Gendered Skills Don’t Exist

So you have a set of tools, right? They’re dangerous unless they are handled properly, and if they’re not handled properly, the risk of hospitalisation increases with the less you know about handling them.

Tropes I Despise: Burden Porn

The sorrowful, dramatic, and heartbreaking music swells. The man in the white coat looks at his results once again and steels himself to deliver the bad news. "The results are in," he says. "There can be no doubt. Your child is... a burden."

Are We Equal?

I hear it stated a lot, especially by people claiming that there is no further ‘need’ for Feminism, that “we are all equal now”.

Tropes I Despise: The Miraculous Minority

You’ve likely seen them without ever knowing they’re there. They’re in Hallmark movies. They’re in Hero movies. They’re in your after-school special.

Why Be Gatekeeping?

Once upon a time, Science Fiction was poo-pooed as “that Buck Rogers stuff”, Star Trek was a silly television show that only housewives watched, comic books were “kids’ stuff”, the Beatles were a stupid boy band for teens, and anything animated was for school children.

Tropes I Despise: Generic Blonde Wife

You almost don’t notice this one, and that’s why it’s so insidious. Once I started taking notice of it, I noticed how prevalent it was.

Tropes I Despise: Innocent White Criminal

Due to circumstances beyond Our Hero’s control, he has to enter a life of crime to make ends meet. He suffers. He fights. He becomes a monster. Was I talking about Walter White from Breaking Bad or whosisface generico Everyman from Ozark?

Re-Spec Mah Prioritah

I’m in an economic pickle once more. The money I once had has gone to frivolous things like… food. And emergencies. And bills.

The Romance of a Thousand Couples: The Romcom Journey

My only means of qualification is that I am really, really, really sick and tired of the Generic Romcom Formula.

The Worst Religious Argument Ever

My dear darling Beloved up and decided to watch Left Behind. Which is what I would classify as a disaster of a disaster movie.

Think of the Children

I want you to imagine a country where the following situation could happen. A little girl of eleven goes to her family’s place of worship. While she’s there, she is repeatedly raped by a fellow member of twenty years of age. This little girl conceives and, instead of

Why I need Patreon Patrons

Economically speaking, me and mine are doing... okay. Okay is fine. But it's not comfortable.
