Reasons to Love: The Stupendium

It should be no shock that I'm a nerd of some significant magnification. I acquire fandoms by osmosis and usually through Tumblr and the people I follow going off about something. My other method is looking for more information about my obsession on YouTube. That's how I found the British rapper The Stupendium.

Turns out that this lyrical genius is also one of them Theys, and also a big fan of a lot of games. They share my cynicism about capitalism and it turns up in a lot of their lyrics.

They also have a brilliant gift for mimicry that has to be heard to be believed.

I've rummaged through the rabbit hole and discovered that pretty much all of their music videos are filmed in a teeny-tiny postage-stamp of a set. They make it WORK. If you know how to look, you can see it.

Including - special effects in post.

This is most obvious in their Poppy's Playtime video, The Toybox. Warning, there's a bit of Eye Scream happening as Stupendium plays a toy come to life. One of the more subtle post-production effects is that they made their teeth too white and therefore disturbing whenever they grin.

Side note: this song I just mentioned is one of my latest obsessions. I play it at least once every day.

Back on topic - even if you're not familiar with the game they're singing/rapping about, there's something there that will worm its way into your brain via your ears. Be warned.

So go check out their music videos. I can pretty much guarantee you'll find something that you'll love.
